2010 Party Trend

December is the month to party, to celebrate the festive season, the year gone by and the new year that will start soon.

For this party season, look from within this season's trends: colour tones from black tones to bright pinks to metallic greys, shine and bling, short and mini dresses, classic sheath, metallics, one-shouldered dresses and tops, super high platform heels (Victoria Beckham's style), animal prints, sequins and a key accessory piece.

No matter what you wear, make sure to use your girl power: frills, ruffles (Moschino), sheer fabrics (Givenchy), high neckline and beautifully draped sleeves. And emphasise the hourglass shape, i.e. focus on the waist while making your shoulders and hips look wider.

What to wear winter 2009-2010 party season?

Black

Balck is the party colour this season (has always been though) but this season it is the top colour in colour palette of every designer - they have used at least one outfit in black.

Little black dresses are the best bet, but not only staples they have a trendy twist. Pick one with one-shoulder or go strapless with embellishments or some bling.

We like Demi Moore's classic single-shoulder RM by Roland Mouret dress that she wore with peep-toe pumps at the L.A. launch of Roland Mouret's exclusive Rainbow Collection for Net-a-Porter.

Don't want to go all black?
This season, dresses in two or more colours are hot, the combined look of two colurs looks fresh and stylish. This colour blocking trend has been with us for two seasons and hasn't lost its popularity.

Colour block black with the shades of red, white, metallics or even pastels. Natalia Vodianova wore a satin peach and black colour blocked dress during the Louis Vuitton Pret a Porter show as part of the Paris Womenswear Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010. This style would make heads turn to you, feminine, sophisticatd and sexy, it certainly is the way to party.

Bright Pink

One of the hottest colours and must have of this Fall and Winter 2009/2010 is Bright Pink. The various shades of pink were everywhere in the winter 2009/2010 and is a great pick for your party wear.
.
Party in pink, the colour is feminine, sexy and fun and would create a bold and fashionable you. Choose from brights to deep pinks, close to fuchsia tone.

How to wear?
Pink can always be combined with other colors, like black, gray, and cream and also with neon palette.

A bright pink shift dress is a smart pick, you can wear it with a jacket in the day and for the night, just take off the jacket, and some accessories and you are ready to party.

We like the way Hilary Duff paired her Bright Pink sheath dress with a black jacket, look great on her. Paired with the nude shoes, she looks taller and sexier.

You can also accessorise with the bright pink colour to glam up your look this party season. Turn heads with a scarf, handbag, shoes or another accessory. Team your LBD with a pair of hot pink heels - grey is another glam colour for this party season and goes well with pink.

One Shouldered or Asymmetric Necklines

From single-shouldered dresses to tops and bikinis, asymmetric shoulder-lines have been one of the most raved about trends for the 2009 and are popular this party season too.

Showing off one-shoulder in a dress can be subtly sexy and interesting on the eye, and the possibilities for how to wear it are numerous. You can pick a sexy one-shouldered dress, or choose a smart one-shouldered top and pair it with slim fit jeans, high heeled shoes and chunky earrings.

For a dress, you can choose from a simple and even have a casual look or can go for a feminine and sophisticated style, or something more flirty and sexy, a style perfect for party wear.

High on the thigh

This season, the emphasis is all on your toned legs, not the cleavage. Super short dresses are THE THING to wear this party season. From Gwen Stefani, Naomi Campbell to Heidi Klum, all are sporting this trend. There are lots of girls who love short skirts. So cheers ladies and get excited, this is your time to wear those sexy skirts (see Jessica Stroup below) and hit the party circuit flaunting those gorgeous short pieces!

You can go short with high hemline, like Gwen Stefani in the black number, or can choose to show your neck like Sarah Jessica Parker in her L'Wren Scott jacquard minidress.

And the best way to wear them? With thigh high or over-the-knee boots.

2. Makeup trend for this party season

A good make-up can really turn heads, so make sure to pay special attention to you makeup this party season. From the make-up trends, matt skin is really popular this winter. Shiny is out, go for pale skin with natural tints, rosy cheeks (pink, pink-blue, peach to natural-tan hues). Make sure you match your blush with either your eyes or your lips.

Your lips should look tender and innocent. Winter 2009-2010 lip color palette range from slightly pink, violet, fuchsia to extremely pale, almost skin-fitting-hue.

Steer away from lip glosses or shiny lips. If you choose to go red on lips, keep the rest of the look simple and team it with colourless eyes. Go red in Gwen Stefani way.

Eyes are the most important part of this season make up trend. There’ll be two extremes for the eyes: smoky-smoky and almost naked ones. Bright colors fit paleness. And this season, keep aside your fake lashes, emphasis is more on the eye shadows then the long lashes. Compensate the lashes with shaded dark pencil at the out corner of the eye line. Thick black and brown eyebrows are in this winter 2009-2010, as they brightly contour the eye shadow.

Tie Dye Jeans - Hit or Miss?

Tie and Dye Jeans is the latest celebrity favourite trend. It has not only become celebrities' hot favourite but also of all the premium jeans brands who have launched their own versions of Tie Dye (also referred as distressed bleached) pairs. From Sass and Bide to J Brand to Ksubi and even Balmain have a tie dye style in their latest collections.

Do you like this trend? Check out pictures of some celebs pulling it off and decide who wears it best?
.

.

Fergie and Nicole Richie

.

.

I think Fergie pulls off the tie dye trend the best. She normalises the loud tie dyed jeans by pairing it with white shirt and the orange belt draws some attention from the jeans, which is really a smart way to balance such a loud look.

.

Tie dye jeans - well, my verdict is its something that you enjoy watching on others, but don't really wear it yourself. Honestly, what does fashion make people wear at times. In the style files I said that I wouldn't care for this trend, and even after looking at so many celebs wearing it, I won't change my stance. But yes, its good for the daring ones with a funky side inside, EXPERIMENT.
.
I think the block colours are the best pick in denim (certainly a little fading here and there is alright).

Do you think you'll wear this trend? Is it something that would work practically or just another celebrity fashion fad? Leave a comment and discuss...........

2008 FASHION FLASHBACK - HAPPY NEW YEAR

Every year we see some fashion trends being forgotten and some sticking by. Below are some of the hottest trends of 2008, some good, some bad. Let's see which styles would stay hot in new year.

1. Maxi Dress
Maxi Dress were seen all around during the spring and summer 2008. They were a huge hit with celebrities, and I think the trend was started by Angelina Jolie in her pregnant days. Angelina Jolie and Nicole Richie (on right) were seen wearing long maxi dresses with a deep neckline that accentuated their motherly curves.

The Bollywood caught the look a bit late with Bollywood Celebs sporting maxi dress in the autumn 2008.

Though it's a smart choice in maternity fashion, the maxi dress is not very flattering on everyone, especially on petite ladies. It looks like this trend will not be carried in 2009. Dresses for 2009 would be a lot shorter and more form-fitting this year.

.
2. Gladiator Shoes
2008 started with the return of gladiator shoes in all avatars from flat sandals, pointed pumps, heeled shoes to wedges. The Gladiator look in shoe fashion were a rage since Sarah Jessica Parker was seen wearing the look in her movie Sex and the City several times (picture below). It was hard to visit a shoe store during that time without seeing a pair of gladiators staring you in the face.

The gladiator shoe trend was quickly taken over on fashion podiums and star studded red carpet events all over the world with celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow, Mary-Kate Olsen, Rihanna, Isha Koppikar wearing them.

I am not a big fan of this style, but many designers are featuring this style once again in their new collections for 2009. If you want to wear this style pick a simple and neutral pair and ensure you keep your overall look also simple.

3. Ruffles - Dresses, Tops and Shirts
The feminine and sexy ruffled blouses and dresses were in the forefront throughout 2008 and were ubiquitous in high street stores in various avatars from shirts, blouses, dresses to accessories like shoes and bags. Ruffles were also featured on our Fashion’s hot trends (Autumn 2008- Winter 2009). They were a huge hit on the runway from Oscar De la Renta, John Galliano , Marc Jacobs, Christian Louboutin to Lanvin all generously displayed this trend. Lanvin came up with this trend most beautifully (Sonam Kapoor, on right, in Lanvin Ruffled Dress).

Not only are they adorable, but are very flattering as well. Paired with pencil skirts or sleek pants, frilly, ruffled tops are popular for work attire, evening wear and even weekend wear.

This trend would certainly be seen in 2009. In the Spring 2009 trends ruffles were everywhere - ruffles at the hem, ruffled skirts, ruffled blouses, ruffled dresses, even ruffles that were vertical. In fact I think they would be one of the hottest trends for even 2009.

How to wear the trend? Into the spring, look for more ruffled tops of the sleeveless variety. Pick pastel and bright colored ruffled blouses in 2009. Pair them with grey, camel and other neutrals. Pair a ruffled blouse with a high waisted pencil skirt for a chic look. Carla wears the trend very smartly - sexy cobalt blue ruffled blouse teamed with a black pencil skirt (below).
.

.
4. Bangs
Bangs and fringes were a huge hit in 2008. They were worn by everyone from red carpet to street. Celebrities from Reese Witherspoon, Katie Holmes, Charlize Theron, Ashlee Simpson, Liv Tyler, Kim Kardashian were wearing bangs in 2008.
.
They look stylish and instantly changes your look without severely cutting your hair or damaging them using perming, straightening or colouring. It is a simple solution to change your stagnant style. No wonder this hairstyle will continue to be popular in the new year and would certainly make a fashion statement.

How to wear the trend? I like the subtle sideswept bangs, but you can choose from various style to suit your face. If you have a long face then you can do the heavy, blunt cut bangs. If you have a heart shaped face, like Reese Witherspoon, then lighter sideswept bangs will suit you better. Wispy, sideswept bags are less harsh than bold, blunt bangs.
.

5. High Waisted Pants and Skirts
High waisted mania took over the fashion world in Spring 2008, it carried on till mid-year, wasn't seen much for a few months and then made a comeback in autumn. They were seen all over on the runway from DKNY, Calvin Klein to Chanel.
.
High waisted pants were popular with celebrities like Scarlett Johansson, Ciara and Mischa Barton. This trend gained popularity since they had the effect of flatter tummy and longer legs. However they also widen the butt, so should be worn with caution. The A-line silhoutte and skinny jeans fit were more popular than the wide-bottom and bell-bottoms style.
.
Along with pants, the high-waisted skirts were also quite popular.

I personally love the look of a high-waisted skirt with a top tucked in - it’s so retro, but done right it’s also very chic and totally flattering. Though high-waisted pants were also popular with celebrities and designers, but my preference is for the skirt. A black pencil high waisted skirt with a bit more volume that hits right above the knee would look great.
.
The comeback of this trend again in the later part of the wear signifies that this trend would be seen in 2009 too.

How to wear the trend? My advice, girls with wide butt or heavy top area should avoid this look as it will only emphasize your problem area. The high-waisted pants would suit the petite lean girls the best, as they make your legs look a mile long. Team the high waisted skirt with a flirty ruffled top or a tucked in blouse (see Victoria and Karisma below).
.

.
6. Baggy Boyfriend Jeans
The Boyfriend Jeans was a hit and miss trend of 2008. Although this trend was first seen in August in 2008, it didn't stick too long. This trend was set by Katie Holmes who was seen wearing them on multiple occasions and was later spotted on Victoria Beckham, Reese Witherspoon, Lindsay Lohan and Heidi Klum.
.
To clear it from outset, I don't think much of the style. True some of the celebrities wearing this trend looked a little fashionable, but then these women will look good even if they turn up in a rucksack. There is no second doubt, though, that this look will be popular in 2009 as already they are being spotted on several celebrities and will soon become popular with high-end designers too.
.
The 2009's 'Boyfriend Jeans' will have a distressed look and should be a little tapered than what was originally seen on Katie. How to wear the boyfriend jeans?

How to wear the trend? This style is suitable for lean girls, team it with a well-fitted tee or a vest and a smart casual belt.

I will certainly give this trend a miss.
