to fring your hear

You must have noticed that all the celebrities walking the red carpet had at one point or another, worn side fringe hairstyles. It is one of the most flattering and easy hairstyles and anyone can wear it. If you are stuck in a hairstyle rut and you have been sporting the same hairstyle for many years, then you need side fringe hairstyles to transform your look. The best thing about these hairstyles is that you can create a great look without having to chop off lot of hair or making any drastic haircuts. Here we will discuss about various side fringe hairstyles and how you can choose the right one that will flatter your face shape and bone structure.

Hairstyles with Side Fringe

There are many hairstyles with side fringe that you can choose from. The main thing to remember while choosing a side fringe hairstyle is to first evaluate, whether a hairstyles with bangs would look good on you or not. For this, you need to brush your hair and pull it back in a headband. Now bring the ends of your hair forward and hold it over your forehead and position it like a side fringe. If you like what you see, then go ahead and get a great side fringe hairstyle.

One of the best side fringe hairstyles that looks good on almost all face types is a sexy side fringe with waves. To create this side swept bangs on long hair hairstyle, you need to first wash and condition your hair with a volumizing shampoo and shine enhancing conditioner. Blow dry hair straight with the help of a paddle brush and blow dryer. Now, create an extreme side part and take a four inch section of your front hair and clip to one side. Now curl the rest of your hair with a loose barreled curling iron to create loose and soft curls. Make sure that the curls are not tight, but bouncy and loose. Take the top section of your hair out of the clip and iron it straight with a ceramic straightening iron. Spritz the side fringe with hairspray, so that it stays in place.

One of the best side fringe hairstyles is to first get side fringe haircuts with long layers. This look is carried off excellently by Hollywood actresses like Cameron Diaz and Hayden Panetiere. To get this hairstyle, you need to create a center part, then take a large triangular section of hair from the front portion and shape it into sweeping bangs. The fringe should be thick and slightly asymmetrical. Ask your stylist to give you a long layered haircut to go with the fringe. All you need to do, to style this hairstyle at home is to blow dry hair and apply a little mousse to keep hair in place. This is one of the best side fringe hairstyles for round faces, as the layers help to give the hair more body and movement and also gives the appearance of slimmer cheeks.

If you have an oval shaped face structure, then layered side fringe hairstyles is best for you. All you need to do is ask your hair stylist for long graduated layers that will blend in beautifully with a sweeping layered fringe. A layered side fringe gives your hair body and movement and will also help to accentuate your eyes. You can also go for a short hairstyles like a bob a la Paris Hilton.

These were some hairstyles with side fringes. A good side fringe hairstyle will instantly make you look younger and is a great style solution for those people who do not want to chop off there locks. There are many side fringe hairstyles for men too and the trends in 2010 forecast the return of variety of lengths in fringes. Side swept fringes are here to stay and you can create many different hairstyles with it.

to fringe your hair or not to fringe

There are no hard and fast rules about hair type or face shape: some people simply do not suit fringes (bangs). It's a very personal thing. If you are thinking of having a fringe but are not sure if it will suit you, or if you fancy a fringe but don't want anything permanent which you will then have to grow out (a big bore), try faking it. It sounds unlikely but it does work!

How Fake a Fringe Hairstyle?

1. Take a section of hair from the crown comb it forwards over your forehead and arrange it as you would a fringe.

Fake a Fringe2. If you have got long hair, twist it to take away the length before taking it forwards. Adjust the width, length and density as required, then clip it securely just above the crown using a large grip. Alternatively, ask your hairstylist to attach a hairpiece.

3. Leave your false fringe for 20 minutes to get used to it before deciding whether it suits you.

Getting a Permanent Fringe into your Hair

Even the most dramatic changes lose their impact after a time, so the trick is to reinvent your look regularly to avoid getting stuck in a style rut. Think how differently Madonna looks at 40 compared with how she looked in her twenties. Many feel she looks younger now. True to type, she has grown her hair and left it long at the age when most women feel they have to go short. Luckily, hair does grow and any change in hair color or hairstyle will pass over the time. Be brave and enjoy the positive power of transformation that a radical fringe hairstyle change can bring.

coats-2010

I was out with my friend Ms S the other day, she was of course looking as fabulous as always in her sleek maxi dress, hip handbag and beaded sandals. When I complimented her on her outfit she blurted out something to the effect of – these old things I’ve had them since the late eighties. Now this isn’t the first time that Ms S has worn something jaw dropping that was purchased more than twenty years ago, on one occasion she was perfectly swathed in the most gorgeous Jean Paul Gauthier number that looked like it was born yesterday…yet again- late eighties. Okay, now I am no slouch in the wardrobing department, I am a stylist for heavens sakes, this is my terrain…. but, apparently I did not inherit the protect and preserve gene from my mother who also famously has a stash of in- tact garments that look untouched by human hands… So in the spirit of trying to return to my practical roots in this “downturn” I want to share some great ways to get the most wear out of your wardrobe.

Burberry

Burberry

Suits, dresses, coats; Avoid too many (overpriced) trips to the dry cleaners., in time those pungent chemicals will cause colors to fade and fabrics to wear. Eco safe detergents that are made for fine fabrics and dry clean only items can be a good substitute on occasion but you need to handle with care and for the life of that silk – read the labels luv, wring out items by rolling inside a towel and lay flat or hang on one of those cute little fold up racks based upon tag recommendations.

Giorgio Armani

Giorgio Armani

Store your fashionista coats, jackets or soon to be out of season items on large hangers that won’t stretch out their shape.. Stuff any shoulders, arms, pockets etc etc with non- acid tissue paper and place them in breathable cloth (not stinky vinyl) garment bags. Steer clear of storing any items in plastic for extended periods of time.

Sweaters

Care for wool and cashmere gently, these items should always be handwashed whenever possible. The preferred method is in a sink full of lukewarm water and a capful of non- phosphorus detergent made especially for knits or delicates. I love The Laundress Wool and Cashmere wash, in fact I adore the entire line from dark wash, to white wash, to stain sticks, to fresheners… they had me at hello I have a stain!

Is the Fashion Oligarchy Losing Relevance in the New Era?

Alexsandro Palombo

from Alexsandro Palombo's upcoming book of illustrations, 'Vanitas, Inshallah'

Robin Givhan’s latest article for the Washington Post zeros in on what everyone knows but that no one of any importance dare to speak of, lest they be ignored and excluded by the same inner circle they seek to critique:

There is an assumed degree of extreme intimacy, among those who are in the business of making and marketing expensive clothes, that sometimes borders on incestuous.

One of the most recent examples of how the various strands of the fashion industry are interwoven — or more aptly, tied into a tight, complicated little knot — comes in the form of a Prada project called “The Iconoclasts.” The Italian design house announced that four well-known fashion editors will each window-dress one of its flagship stores. The guest merchandisers’ work is organized to coincide with Fashion Week in each of the four cities.

…The point, however, is whether they should be doing it at all. In a business where conflicts of interest occur every day, this is a step too far and poorly timed. Fashion does not need such a public blow to its credibility during an economic crisis that has it quite literally — and at times, unfairly — having to justify its existence.

Yes, that’s right, magazine editors are not offering us an objective, unbiased view of fashion designers offerings, and show favor to their advertisers. This situation is already so taken for granted that it only serves as the background context for Ugly Betty episodes rather than a full plot line. So why does Givhan now see this as such an issue, worthy of risking exclusion from the relevant insider parties? The Washington Post is making serious budget cuts, so could be there’s a ‘nothing left to lose since they won’t pay for me to fly to Milan anyway’ undercurrent, but Givhan expresses concern that given the current about face in consumer spending, this now undermines their credibility:

…the Paris store will be merchandised by the editor in chief of French Vogue, Carine Roitfeld — which would seem to be a bit like the editor of Sports Illustrated calling the plays at a football game and then writing about how brilliant the coaching was.

…Magazines have never pretended to be objective observers of fashion. They have always seen their role as that of cheerleader and champion. They celebrate the most talented designers and the most beautiful clothes and simply ignore the rest. They give special attention to advertisers. And so it’s often hard to know whether the best truly is any good at all. Maybe the only reason that a collection gets press is because the designer just happens to be a good schmoozer with the right connections or a compelling story.

Yah think? Again, this is not an earth shattering revelation. So why is it now such a big problem?

At a time when the industry needs all the credibility it can muster, Prada is bragging about its coziness with editors. With so many folks scratching each other’s back, why should any reader put stock in a story about clothes that supposedly have lasting value?

No kidding. It’s the same extreme trend over the top flashy excess that last year was sold as a ’splurge’ but now is spun with the new buzzword, ‘investment.’

Why should anyone believe magazines, designers or anyone in this industry? No wonder so many consumers believe the fashion business is just one giant conspiracy out to dupe women. It’s just what the paranoid always thought: They are all in this together.

Perhaps it was less of a problem when there was an ever increasing supply of cash flow into the industry fueled largely by the arms race between aspirational desperate housewives convinced that buying ‘It Bags’ on credit was necessary and innocuous.

The fashion industry painted itself into this corner over the long haul. It doesn’t see itself as a conglomeration of businesses that are interdependent and yet provide each other with checks and balances. Instead, the industry would best be described as an unruly family filled with enablers who encourage behavior that weakens consumer trust.

This sudden new reverse status of thrift and restraint combined with how excessive displays of consumption and lavish lifestyles have become unfashionable (in case you haven’t heard, bankers and by association the arm candy they used to finance are way unpopular symbols right about now) have left this insider clique looking, dare I say, out of date. And scurrying to regain their relevance in a way that seems to echo Wall Street’s denial that the way of life they’d become accustomed to isn’t going to ‘return to normal.’ Ever.

Hopefully these cracks in the establishment will provide opportunities for genuine innovation and relevant collections from heretofore excluded designers.

to fringe your hair or not to fringe

For any individual who is looking for an edgy look a fringe hairstyle is a great option. Fringe hairstyles are centered on the cutting of the bangs. Ladies can create various looks by changing up their bangs.

Fringe Hair is in!

Popular Fringe Hair

Many hairstyles now feature blunt cut bangs. The great thing about fringe hairstyles is that they are perfect for long, short, and medium hair. There is no certain hairstyle that ladies have to follow. Blunt cut bangs are worn straight and sleek and the rest of the hair can be work straight or slightly wavy or curly. Some ladies may want to add a few layers around the face to complete the hairstyle. Even the popular bob hairstyle can have blunt cut bangs for a different look.

Side Swept Fringe

Side Swept Fringe

Side swept bangs are popular for many hairstyles. Even many of the very short hairstyles that are very short and spiky in the back contain side swept bangs to help frame the face. Fringe hairstyles can also help to hide trouble spots such as large or protruding foreheads. Fringe hairstyles are extremely popular and many celebrities have found great success with the styles. Fringe hairstyles are very modern and ladies can also pin their hair up when necessary for another look

Fashion for life:
The chinos have it

Fashion for Life

I have many pairs of trousers. Tons. I have cigarette pants that have dined with Prince Charles (well, he was in the same marquee) and capri pants that have danced with Joseph Fiennes (well, he was on the same dance floor). I have velvet trousers that met my goddaughter on the day she was born, and pinstripe pants that met Giorgio Armani in a New York lift. (I accidentally trod on his toe. Really trod, with the full force of a rampant Manolo. How dreadful is that? Almost as bad as the time Nicky Haslam introduced me to Mick Jagger; I was so overcome that I shook him warmly by the hand and said, ‘Hello Mike!’ Grief with a capital G.)

Back on the trouser tip, I have countless pairs of jeans in every possible iteration – from bleached to indigo, skinny to voluminous flare. Also an odd pair of loon pants bequeathed to me by Alexander McQueen, I know not why. Plus some vile checked trousers (half of a vile suit), a lone pair of women’s golfing trousers, lots of track-pants from my Mel B phase and…well, as you can surmise, plenty of choice when I root around the closet for a pair of trews.

Much like a good pair of jeans, chinos need to go unassumingly about their business, the better to platform your amazing shoes

I have never, however, worn chinos. Chinos always seemed to me the most nondescript of bottom halves. Unadventurous. Insipid. The sartorial equivalent of macaroni cheese. For a start, they’re beige – a colour that may have been the making of Mr Armani (God bless his poor dear toes), but which hardly sets the pulse racing. And they’re a nothing sort of cut – comfy, roomy, a pit-stop between scruffy and smart.

Thus it is with some surprise that I can report that chinos are the hot-to-trot summer trouser. All manner of trend-meisters are wearing them – from Kylie and Selma Blair, to Rihanna and Jessica Biel.

Knowing this (and having long ago discounted the other summer trousers – the truly suspect harem pants), I waltzed off to Gap to buy a pair. This, I’m told, is the very best place to purchase chinos, improbably because cheaper chinos (as against the catwalk versions from Lacoste, Ferretti or Gucci) wear in faster and will soon look as if you’ve had them for ever. This is the point of chinos. Much like a good pair of jeans, they must be almost unnoticeable, apparent only to the most watchful fashion eye.

They need to go unassumingly about their business, the better to platform your amazing shoes (crucial with the new-age chino) and your incredible ankles – you will, of course, have rolled them up to reveal a coquettish slice of leg; you don’t want to look like a preppy refugee from Lehman Brothers.

This look needs to be feminised, so pump it up with heels and turn-ups. And, for Lord’s sake, don’t press a crease into the front. Do I have to tell you every little thing?

As I have discovered, chinos are remarkably gracious, as garments go. You can take them anywhere, like an educated and courteous plus-one at a party. I shall probably wear them when next a meeting with Sir Mike is in the offing.

The tests are over, assignments are done and the only books you’ll want to be reading are paperbacks on the beach. And this summer, you’ll want to look your best and conquer whatever fashion trends might come your way, especially for us ladies. From bathing suits to sunglasses to less than plain old clothes, here are 10 summer trends for summer 2010.

Sunglasses: Vintage frames are in for the summer. Whether square, round or horn-rimmed, the sunglasses trend this summer is all about finding that unique look that suits a specific face shape as well as an individual personality.

Swimsuits: Variety seems to be the key with swimsuits this summer, with every trend fitting in with a specific body type. Those who are keener on revealing skin might enjoy the “cut-out” trend. These suits and bikinis are designed in a specific way to highlight good areas of the body while leaving others under wraps. Additionally, the cut outs highlight the cool designs of the suits. Another trend is 1950s pinup girl swimsuits, which gives a vintage look to your summer getup while also flattering any body shape.

Coverups: When it comes to this beach essential, the more the merrier. There’s no end to coverups, from beautiful woven print towels, to crocheted tunics and even kimono wrap tops. The overall theme of coverups this summer seems to be ethnic prints and looks made with airy fabrics, all giving off an effortless look.

Spring 2010 Trend: Summer Suits

Posted by admin on June 1st, 2010 — Posted in Women's 2010

spring-runway-models-suit

Temps are already skyrocketing into the 90 degree range on the East Coast which means it’s time to start showing some skin. However, the office is no place to bare it all. Fortunately one of the season’s top trends just happens to be the summer suit!

An updated take on office wear, the summer suit is comprised of a sharp blazer and chic shorts (which also happens to be a very of-the-moment trend in its own right).

DKNY, Stella McCartney, Chris Benz, and Charlotte Ronson were some of the designers who sent pretty pairings down the runway for spring/summer.

Chic en latexSabatini White sleepy, seductive for Spring 2010

Posted by admin on May 17th, 2010 — Posted in Women's 2010

With a dreamy cover of 30’s classic Falling In Love Again, Sabatini White’s RAFW (Australian fashion week) show began. Models with hair in soft, cascading waves padded slowly down the runway with a sleepy sensuality, like purring kittens on a late morning hunt for milk. Before long the music upped in pace and the padding became prowling as tighter, darker, cut-away pieces found their way down the runway, followed by full-length sheer black lace pieces and some empire-waist tiered dresses that echoed a 70s free-love sentiment.

The dreamy, just-woken-up look also manifested in feminine yet sultry pieces that sat somewhere between lingerie and outerwear, rounding out a beautiful Spring 2010 collection.

, whether they own a home or not, and if so, how much that home is worth.

I can then take my hand out of my pocket, gesture with a flick to signal a scroll, and thus sift through pages of more information about the women. Eventually, instead of reading all this on my arm, I could do it via a chip implanted into my head.

interactive sixths senseWe’ve long dreamt of wielding ultimate power — and there’s now power like information so readily available like this: All of it literally at our finger tips, extractable from the air’s radio waves.

To be sure, while the above scenario is already basically nearly possible — something like it was demonstrated in February by some MIT researchers at a conference called TED in Long Beach, Ca. (image left) — it is still a long way off from being adopted by the mainstream. Carrying around cameras, projectors and phones that have to work together is still complicated — but it’s the sort of thing that is coming, even if it will takes years.

Combined with “augmented reality” technology, which can tell you instantly other things about the bar — for example, what cocktails on the menu you can buy for the women — all this technology will make things much more interesting.

In the immediate future, however, there’s plenty of territory for companies and researches to conquer more basic interactive technologies, based on finger touch and speech-recognition.

Called “natural human interface” technology, it translates our gestures — touching a physical screen, or swipe our fingers across it, for example — into commands that let us be more productive than ever before. Touch technology is where we’ll see the most clear opportunities over the next two years, because even a small screen now has so many channels to translate different gestures. Other technologies — using things like infrared, motion detector sensors and gyroscopes to track movement of your hands or fingers — will let you interact with screens with no touch at all. For now, such non-touch technologies are used for things like games (think of the Nintendo Wii, for example, or Microsoft’s Natal, which let you move a hand control or simply your body, to interact with a screen), but they are much less interesting because they are still relatively imprecise. Most of the coolest action right now is in touch.

synaptics-touch1That’s where recent developments by Apple (which produced the massively popular iPhone, based on touch technology) and Microsoft (which produced Surface, a way to interact with graphics on a tabletop screen) are leading the way. Apple’s iPhone has popularized the use of single and double finger taps, swiping and other touch commands to do things like zoom in and out. Synaptics, a Santa Clara, Calif., company supplying such touch technology to Apple and other touch-phones such as Android, is generating ever more complex gesture features. Last month, Synaptics released a new screen technology boasting 48 sensing channels on an 8-inch screen that can accept up to 10-finger touch commands at a time — useful things like multi-player games, for example. Apple’s advantage is that it owns its devices outright — and integrates such technology seamlessly into its software and hardware — letting the touch features function smoothly within its graphical user interface.

Other companies, such as Microsoft, are pushing things forward, even when they don’t own the entire device, and thus lack such native integration. Microsoft’s Media Room project, for example, will announce in October new features that let you interact with a TV using a touch-screen remote control, the company says. The remote will let you use standard swiping and tapping gestures, but will also support speech commands. Microsoft is working with remote control makers such as Philips and Ruwido. The remote will also be integrated with the offerings of content providers and set-top box makers.

So with all of this new touch-based technology coming out, we have plenty to do before we need to graduate to the chip in the head. “The tip of the iceberg,” is what we’ve seen so far, says Andrew Hsu, product marketing director and strategist at Synaptics. Only recently have device makers experimented by making touch-screens bigger, so that multiple people can control them at the same time.

Synaptics is also developing ways to move beyond touch, including knowing when a finger is merely close to the screen, through its existing capacitive technology. (Other technologies, such as HP’s Touchsmart, are doing something like this using infrared sensors. Correction: An earlier version of this piece suggested that Synaptics is working on using infrared; it is not.). These efforts can then let you control a device simply by waving your finger or hand above the surface. Synaptics is also developing technology to take things in the other direction: detecting when you’re forcing your finger down on the screen beyond just a simple touch. Finally, technology is being built to detect how you’re holding the phone. This will improve on existing accelerometer technology, to make it more sensitive (the iPhone’s switch to and from “landscape mode” works, but not that well). It will also allow you to issue additional commands by gripping in the device in certain ways. Finally, for safety reasons (to avoid car accidents), Synaptics and others are looking for ways for users to more easily control a device with a single hand, or with feedback technology such as haptic technology (which has the screen push back against your finger slightly, when you’ve pressed it in the right area) or through speech recognition.

Waving my hand in the air to solicit immediate information about three women at the bar may be interesting, but it’s a long way off. Right now, look forward to all the cool stuff that’s about to happen on phones and other interactive displays.

Top 10 Requested Celebrity Hairstyles - A Beyoncé Bouffant Anyone?

Hair salons are being inundated with requests for Beyoncé's latest style. Blame it on her edgy alter ego Sasha Fierce, or the 45 million YouTube followers engrossed in her Single Ladies video, but Beyoncé's influence is spreading to a hair salon near you.

Watch the Single Ladies video at youtube.com

bey-hair.jpg

"The Beyoncé is basically a streamlined backcombed bouffant," says celebrity hairstylist Errol Douglas. "It's very contemporary, a more tailored version of the big, glam bouffant hair in the 80s. This style is easier to do but the transformation element is still there - you feel different instantly. It's a sassy look, popular on the catwalk, and it's very versatile - you can dress it up with makeup or leave it without."

"Beyoncé has become so big … everyone wants a piece of her, and this is an easy, accessible way to get that," he adds.

With its nod to the 80s, the Beyoncé confirms that it's not just stonewashed jeans and leotards that are coming back - hair is having a revival, too. The main appeal of the style is its convenience factor: it doesn't require you to cut or dye your hair; it works on African American and Caucasian hair; it suits most ages.

At most salons, the look will set you back between $100 and $350, depending on how much time is spent creating it. Stylists are currently doing half a dozen interpretations of the Beyoncé daily. However, it is also a style you can recreate on a smaller budget at home (see below).

Another benefit of this version of the look is its age-defying properties. "A tight ponytail actually softens the face," says Douglas. "Back in the 40s and 50s, before facelifts, they would pull the hair back, which automatically pulls the skin up, and then add a wig on top."

How To Recreate The Beyoncé At Home

If you don't have long hair and you're looking for a quick fix, you can buy ready-made ponytails from hair shops that attach simply with a hair band or clip. The other option is to buy the hair and attach it yourself. If you are doing this, wash and blow-dry your hair the night before (if you wash it on the day, you won't get longevity out of the style).

On the day, straighten your hair to smoothen the hairline - don't forget the hair at the back of your head. Then leave an inch of your hair at the front (this will cover over the backcombing) and start backcombing the rest of your hair, taking it a section at a time. Use a non-aerosol spray for afro hair, such as Matrix Air Trix Strong Hold Non-Aerosol spray. Use a lighter spray for Caucasian hair, such as Matrix Vavoom, which won't make the hair greasy. Hold the comb at a 45-degree angle - this will give you more height.

Tip your head forward and spray underneath lightly to brush up short bits of hair. Then brush the inch of hair at the front to slick over the backcomb effect, pulling the whole thing together into a tight ponytail. Create the ponytail just below the crown - it can look severe if it is too high up.

If using synthetic hair, take a section and use as many kirby grips as necessary to attach it to your own hair. Once one section is secure, continue to unravel the synthetic hair around the ponytail and secure it to your hair - be sure that the attachment is nice and tight. Ask a friend to help and check that the hair is symmetrical. Then take two inches of synthetic hair and wrap it around the join so it looks seamless, and pin this in place.

Finish by trimming the ends of the ponytail and adding shine wax to the front of your hair for a sleek look.

Last Wednesday March 3rd, Milan fashion week drew to a close after seven exciting days spent presenting the new women’s collections on the catwalks for the next autumn-winter season 2009/2010. The most famous Italian fashion houses took part in this fashion event, showing their creations and conveying the image of a refined, self-reliant woman, who loves luxury, with a strong personality and intriguing sensuality.

milan-fashion-week-2009-2010Milan fashion week was eagerly anticipated by fashion journalists, media and critics because they were all curious to know what Italian designers would be able to achieve. How would they represent the idea of Italian fashion and style in such a difficult period as this, with the fierce economic recession affecting the entire world?

Looking at this fashion week, it is not difficult to realize that the economic crisis really exists and that it is negatively impacting the fashion world too, which in everybody’s imagination is the symbol of perfect beauty, the expression of a woman’s dream. Italian fashion houses, just like most Italians, are suffering because of this recession: people are less likely to buy luxury clothes or accessories anymore and the fashion sector is at a standstill which provokes an incredible loss of money, very few profits and the inevitable decision to make some budget cuts in the creation of a luxury fashion collection.

This year, more than 10 famous brands decided not to take part in Milan fashion week because of the impossibility of preparing an appropriate collection which would enhance the brand and their popularity. The Florentine designer Roberto Cavalli just presented his own collection, and had to give up presenting the JUST CAVALLI line, because the company ITTIERRE with whom he collaborates in the creation of this line, is facing some economic problems and was no longer able to guarantee him a collection that would live up to the brand image and its popularity around the world. Other designers that took part in this Italian event were criticized for putting together poor and unexciting collections.

However, although some designers tried to confront the economic crisis by proposing very sober styles, classic essential lines without any complementary accessories such as luxury bags, necklaces or hats, to make their creations more affordable in price and accessible to a larger group of customers, there have been many other famous fashion houses that, at this difficult time of recession, focused all their energies on creating a very high quality product, a gorgeous luxury item of perfect Italian manufacture, distinguished for its elegance and refinement, for its perfect stitching for the selection of prestigious fabrics and leathers used for its manufacture. Sophisticated silks, gorgeous velvets with damask decoration, wool and cashmere, have made these creations genuine masterpieces of glamour and sensual elegance.

Particular attention was also paid by this second group of designers to accessories such as shoes, gloves and luxury handbags because, in their opinion, these are very important elements to complete the woman’s look, affirming her dynamism and sensuality. Shoes and boots should have vertiginous heels and wedges to enhance the woman’s legs, which are encased in matt black nylons for the day and very sensual black micromesh nylons at night.

Luxury handbags for daywear are wide and comfortable, almost all made of genuine leather, though some designers preferred using gorgeous exotic leathers such as crocodile both for some dresses from their autumn-winter collection and for the bags to match. Evening bags can be summed up in a single word: clutches. They are the in handbag to wear to a glamorous party or a special evening event, according to what was shown by most Italian fashion houses at Milan fashion week. The clutch, as an eternally sophisticated style of bag, will dominate the fashionable evening scene next autumn-winter 2009/2010, as the uncontested essential of an elegant woman’s style. Made of genuine leather or of lustrous fabric, soft or structured, clutches are everywhere, always clasped in the hand, matching the dress in color and style. Where possible, clutches are also worn by the woman across the body, thanks to the refined long gold or silver chain strap. Gloves are really gorgeous, made of leather or fabric, black or colored to match the dress, short or elbow length, shiny or matt.

milan-fashion-week-handbagsAnalyzing the new proposals presented at Milan Fashion week in more detail, we can confidently say that, as regards style, there is a return to the past. We’re revisiting the 70’s and 80’s with high waisted trousers or skirts, leather coats and stretch leather trousers, maxi shirts and cropped jackets defining the waist line worn with wide trousers.

We can find a touch of the 80’s also in some of the fashionable fabrics characterizing these autumn-winter women’s collections: there is a return to shimmering silks and lamè fabrics for the evening look, perfect for enhancing a woman’s elegance and natural luminosity, especially if she wears a sober long dress. Fabrics are covered by rhinestones and sequins, which shine in the light and bring to mind the glamorous sparkling dresses worn by movie stars or famous international singers of the 80’s at the Oscars or other important celebrations. Thirty years on, fashion repeats itself but doesn’t lose any of its glamorous beauty. A woman dressed in an elegant long dress, enriched by decorative rhinestones and pearls is always gorgeous, just as much today as yesterday, because elegance is timeless.

My Fashion Life: Denise Plante

By Lesley Kennedy

Denise Plante is the co-host of the KOSI 101.1 morning show, co-host of News9’s Colorado & Company and is the mother of two boys. So, what’s her secret to staying so stylish and looking so polished with her busy schedule? Well, she has a little help.

“Denise Snyder from Mariel dresses me for Colorado & Company,” Plante says. ”She not only owns the store, but is also an excellent stylist.”

Plante is usually seen wearing a feminine dress or skirt and sweater on air. “Dresses are much more flattering on TV for my figure,” she says.

Outside of work, Plante says you’ll most often catch her wearing running pants and a tank top with flip flops.

“I love wearing cotton — with a little Spandex — running pants,” she says. “They have a flared leg, so it helps with my hips.”

Here’s a look at some recent styles from her fashion life.

THE DETAILS:

Look 1: Red and black circle print dress from Mariel. “I love the colors red, blue and black,” Plante says.

Look 2: Mint green cropped cardigan and full skirt with a white tank and silver accessories from Mariel.

Look 3: Black long evening dress from Mariel. ”Denise Snyder has become a wonderful friend. She does so much for the community and reaches out in any way she can,” Plante says. ”Her love for fashion has helped me tremendously! I often ask her to help me with events outside of TV/radio appearances. She has dressed me in the past for the Emmys, cocktail receptions and nonprofit events.”

Look 4: Patchwork tiered sundress from Mariel.

Look 5: “It was from a photo shoot for a VOA/Mariel event,” she says. “The dress is from Mariel.”

When the Australian cricketer Greg Chappell showed his middle finger to the Indian audiences, the nation was so offended that it asked not just for an apology but the hapless Aussie’s blood. Indians hissed “Showing middle finger is against the culture of India”. They created huge furor that the act of showing a middle finger is the most obscene, unIndian thing to do. So cultured are the people of the world’s largest democracy!

Talking about democracy, India recently had her elections and to put on a colorful (let’s say gaudy) show, all the Bollywood stars voted and posed for photographs. The most revolting and obscene of them all was having to see Amitabh Bachchan and his family gesturing at the nation.

The annoying Aishwarya Rai, the unshaven and slimy Abhishek Bachchan revealed their ugly selves that day. It was printed in national newspapers for everyone to see. The revolting and disgusting sight of the gray haired old man and his family showing the middle finger after casting their votes.

They must have thought anything they do would be accepted by the highly cultural Indians. Hypocritical Indians who swore against the middle finger being against Indian culture did accept the family brandishing their fingers too, and they lapped it all up. This hypocritical situation nauseated me so much that for a minute I hated cricket a little less than I always have done. Chappell’s middle finger was just not offensive.

fingers tipes

I was playing with my friend’s 4-year old daughter in her Hong Kong home one day while her mother and my other half watching and laughing at our funny antics. Then, the smart little girl pulled me by my pinky finger towards a bare wall just next to the TV set and asked me to sit down. Her mother seemed to know what she wanted to do, closed the curtains, dim the lights and shone one of the lamp towards the bare wall. Now, let me remind you, she is only 4 years old. She started some shadow puppet show and did almost 5 animal shadows with her cute little fingers. I can barely do 2! Both my girlfriend and myself were so amazed that we asked her to do it a few more times just to “wow” over and over again. And she is delighted to entertain us. Too bad I did not have my camera around.

Then when I got back home, I thought about the hand shadow illusions and started my search on the Internet. This is what I found, and 3 of the animals are similar to what the little girl has done. And I tried all myself:

This pig or wild boar is not easy to do, the top fingers have to bend a little with a bit of hump to form the forehead.

finger-shadow-illusions-02
I called this the jumping dog and my girlfriend would laugh non stop when I wiggle the tail and legs by moving my thumb and other finger tips.

Now the little girl actually did the elephant, she even made the trunk goes up and down along with elephant sound (her version of course). My version of elephant is much, much fatter said my other half – Oh darn!

Camel is tough to form but once you got the fingers placed correctly, it looks really nice.

finger-shadow-illusions-05
This human face shadow illusion is very interesting providing if you get your finger placement right.

Ducky seemed easy to do but finger bending is tough!

This is another version of the duck. The one with Elvis’ hair.

The little girl did this one but the butterfly version. This is a goose in flight by the way.

Not bad! Turtle shadow illusion.

finger-shadow-illusions-16
The horns seemed a little short for this gazelle but you don’t have such long fingers right? It’s nice nevertheless. :)

A good challenge for you all who is trying it out now. A goat to end the slideshow.
